Sometimes It's Better to Underwhelm Them :)
Sometimes It’s Better to Underwhelm Them
What, do you think is one of the best ways to drive customers away?
I'll tell you! Giving them to many damn
choices that's what! Think about it...how many times have you sat down at a restaurant, picked up a
menu, and were almost instantly overwhelmed by the size of their menu. Did you think to yourself? "Hey wait what's going on here? Is the an Italian restaurant or a Greek restaurant?" or maybe you thought ..."wow when I came in here I thought I wanted the spaghetti plate, but now maybe I want a Gyro and then got so over burdened by choices that you settled for a burger...AGAIN! Ugggg!!!"
Believe it or not having too many choices can have
the direct opposite effect on your business as what you were hoping for.In fact, if you offer to many options, prices, and choices it could ultimately drive some of your customers away. Sometimes the consumer isn’t even aware that that is why they left a shop empty handed, especially if they had intended on buying something. They do not always see it as being problematic...UNTIL they start to frequent that store less and less overtime...why? well, because it is just to mentally overwhelming.
When I started my little shopping parlor and showroom, one of the promises I made to my self and my brand was to
keep it simple! To offer a range of basket options and some gifting
items but to never make it feel to busy or two overwhelming. In business
it can be a real balance between keeping the customers interested but also
not overwhelming their senses so much that you drive them away.
Ironically enough, I’ve had more than one customer say to me “ Wow! For a small space
it doesn’t feel crowded or overwhelming”. There is just enough in the
space to keep one's attention without providing so many choices or visual distractions that they
become choice overloaded. Now...couple that with a private viewing option and I have seen my customers stress melt away. Its almost kinda Kismet!
So, instead of overwhelming them by choice I’ve kept my offerings to a maximum of about 8-15 possible items, some will end up being showroom staples, while others will come and go. Additionally, I rarely by in bulk so it doesn’t feel
cluttered and like I always do I base my product lines on a few concepts work with clean lines that are eye catching , utilize and maximize the use of sustainable packing, and use the space wisely
Finally, I cannot stress more how sometimes, less is more! I can’t be good
at everything but I can always strive to be the VERY best at what I
specialize in.
So, what will you get at the Showroom North? Simple, sustainable
design, minimalist practices and products principles. I look forward to hosting and
greeting you in the Showroom!
And remember to ALWAYS let your gratitude fuel your attitude!
